21 Mar Meet Vanessa, Cybersecurity Service Provider (CSSP) Manager
What do you do?
I am a Cybersecurity Service Provider (CSSP) manager. In that role, I am responsible for ensuring the provider and subscriber sites comply with all the policy and governance that is issued for protecting the network. I have been in this position a little more than a month and am still learning my new roles and responsibilities. This means I have been doing lot of reading! In the future, I will work on analyzing results and producing reports and talk to other groups to make sure processes and procedures are implemented and make sense.
What are 5 things you do almost every day?
- Check email
- Review my “to do” list
- Look at my calendar for meetings
- Check in with the team
- Take care of any hot items
Do you have a morning ritual?
The best way to start my day is getting a cup of coffee from my favorite local coffee shop so I’m ready for whatever lies ahead.
What kind of skills do you need to be effective in your role?
- Communication: This job involves a lot of writing and interacting with other teams.
- Attention to detail: The ability to analyze different reports, review for accuracy, and link documentation together.
- Ability to work well with others: Work with internal and external teams.
- Be proactive and a self-starter: Work on your own and come up with new ideas.
- Be able to read, interpret, and implement policies and procedures: Read governing documents and implement them within the environment.
What do you like best about your job?
My coworkers. The people I work with are extremely smart and a great group of people. I am always learning new things from them. I also like the flexibility I am given to maintain a good work/life balance.
What advice would you give to someone looking to become a CSSP Manager?
It is important to research latest security and technology trends – never stop learning! Also, education and certifications are important as they are required to hold the position.
