22 May Courageous Conversations In the COVID-19 New Normal Pre-Conference Session at the TWC Virtual Leadership Conference
On Wednesday afternoon, May 20, The Women’s Center hosted its second online breakout session for its Virtual Leadership Conference. (The conference itself will take place June 8.) The topic was “Courageous Conversations in the COVID-19 New Normal” and was presented by Karen deLacy, a former CIA agent and executive leadership coach. Karen gave a funny, upbeat, yet challenging presentation about courage in this time of COVID-19. She based much of her conversation on research professor Brené Brown’s work, especially her latest book, Dare to Lead.
One of the big takeaways of the session was how to act with courage in times of uncertainty. Elizabeth Albrycht, Criterion’s director of marketing and communications, remarked that what really hit home for her was that in the absence of information, people tend to make up negative stories about what is really going on. She said, “I think we all can identify moments, both professional and personal, when our brains went a little crazy thinking up explanations for why someone wasn’t responding to us. This session served as a great reminder of that very human reaction and how important it is for corporate leaders to be present to their employees during these challenging times, even when they don’t have all the answers.”
Registered attendees of the conference are invited to join upcoming pre-conference (and one post-conference) sessions on the following topics:
- May 27 @ 4:30: Embracing Feedback to Fuel Your Personal Brand Presented by Kim Wensel
- June 3 @ 4:30: Rising Above Your Fears and Embracing Your Passion, Purpose, and Power! Presented by L.Y. Marlow
- June 17 @ 4:30: Leadership Forum: Managing a Multi-Generational Workforce Facilitated by Stephanie Mango with Lori Trawinski and Mike Todd
