Criterion Systems provides valuable support to the U.S. Department of Labor’s (DOL) IT Systems Engineering and Integration Support Program for the Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO). The DOL prepares the American workforce for new and better jobs, and ensures the adequacy of America’s workplaces. Criterion Systems is looking to hire a Data Center Network Engineer to support our customer. Once hired the person will be part of a team and will provide a mix of the following duties:

Job Description

  • Provide Network Engineering Support for Data Center Consolidation and Cloud Migration initiatives.
  • Develop Network Diagrams, topologies for “as-is”, and “to-be” states for physical and logical configurations
  • Understand configuration files for firewall, switch and other network assets, reverse engineer and create specification that will be used for migrating network from one data center to other
  • Comprehends customer’s business objective and design a solution to improve performance, reduce cost, and eliminate security concerns.
  • Receives assignments in the form of objectives and establishes tasks, level of effort, timelines, risk, and goals to meet objectives.
  • Provides technical expertise to develop, deploy, and support the enterprise network infrastructure.
  • Applies analytical techniques when gathering information, defining work tasks, designing technology solutions, identifying risks, and developing procedures to complete tasks.
  • Performs research, evaluation and/or provides recommendation for new alternative solutions and technologies to enable and securely improve network traffic flow across the enterprise.
  • Proposes technical solutions in both visual and verbal formats.  Communicates with confidence to nontechnical business customers and creates technical design diagrams for engineers. 
  • Visually and verbally explain in a manner non-technical people can understand and confidently approve the work.

Minimum Requirements

  • Experience in managing firewalls and setting firewall rule
  • Persuasive communication skills both verbal and in writing
  • Experience in configuration on Load Balancers, such as NetScaler, F5
  • Configuring Cisco switches and experience in SolarWinds, Cisco Nexus and similar products
  • Knowledge and experience in setting up VMWare and moving VMWare across data centers
  • Proficient with Visio, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering.
  • Minimum of 5 years related experience
  • The ability to obtain a public trust clearance

Desired Requirements

  • CCNA, CCNP, or equivalent
  • Prior experience in a position of influence
