Our team of expert staff plan, build, and operate IT and communication systems in support of the National Nuclear Security Administration's Office of Secure Transportation (OST) for the United States Department of Energy. The Office of Secure Transportation is responsible for the safe and secure transportation of government-owned special nuclear materials in the contiguous United States.

Criterion Systems, Inc. is seeking a results-oriented, self-motivated Senior VOIP Network Engineer to support a Department of Energy (DOE) contract at the Federal Customer site in Albuquerque NM. Your primary duties for this position include (but not limited to) deploying and providing ongoing support for development and ongoing support of Cisco Unified Communication Suite. This will include tier-2/3/4 troubleshooting and engineering (as needed), developing and updating standard operating procedures for VOIP provisioning and maintenance tasks. You will also provide technical assistance and mentoring to junior staff on the Network Operations team which will include creating and updating all related engineering documents, drawings, and IP addressing assignments. The successful candidate will demonstrate self-initiative and be able to operate without supervision. Must be flexible and able to work nights, weekends and holidays as needed to support planned and unplanned network maintenance and troubleshooting events.
In addition to the successful candidate’s primary focus responding to trouble tickets and maintaining Cisco Unified Communication Suite this position will be called upon for the following requirements and additional duties:
·       Operating in a remotely administered lights-out environment where equipment is deployed pre-configured and out-of-band access via OOB mgmt. and serial consoles is used when necessary during circuit problem determination
·       Develop documentation to improve current operating procedures
·       Draft configuration change control proposals for submission to the CCB
·       Create and update topology diagrams and associated documentation for each office location and network enclave
·       Install and operate open source software to perform network performance testing and monitoring


  • US Citizenship
  • Active DOE Q or TS Clearance or candidate must be clearable to that level
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Security or related field or 4 years of work experience to be used in lieu of degree
  • Must have three (3) to five (5) years of experience building and supporting on-premise  Cisco Unified Communication Manager CUCM to include:
  • Communication Gateways: Cisco Expressway series or Cisco Unified border Elements
  • Unified Communication Applications: Cisco Unity connect or Cisco Jabber or Cisco Unity express or Cisco Unified Communication Manager IM & Presence services
  • Telephony Extensions: Cisco emergency Responder or Cisco Voice Provisioning tool
  • Voice Gateways: Cisco Unified Survivable Remote Site Telephony or Cisco IOS Gateways with SIP or Cisco VG 300 series gateways
  • Cisco VOIP planning, configuration and deployment
  • Must have an expert understanding of the TCP/IP stack and previous experience supporting heterogeneous LAN and WAN implementations
  • Understand application transport and network infrastructure protocols (SSL/TLS, DNS, DHCP, WINS, NTP, FTP, HTTP, SMTP, CIFS, LDAP, and Microsoft AD) and their relationship to user applications
  • Develop and apply standard configuration templates to all assigned devices and update inventory and topology records during moves, adds and changes
  • Must have experience with Wireshark, Ethereal, tcpdump or equivalent packet decoding tools
  • Review log events and operate network management applications to perform fault detection, identify performance metrics, and generate reports to support specific service level requirements

  • VMWare NSX-T
  • Recent experience in an enterprise or service provider environment deploying, troubleshooting, and documenting LAN and campus networks using Cisco network devices (Catalyst 3560/3860 and Nexus 5000 switches, Cisco ASR, ISR-series routers, and Cisco ASA security appliances with Firepower). Palo Alto 3000, 500 series utilizing
  • RSA SecureID, NTP/GPS, Solarwinds NCM/NPM, Nagios, Enigma, CSfC
  • Demonstrate an expert understanding of Cisco IOS 12.x/15.x command syntax
  • Experience configuring BGP, EIGRP, OSPF, Flex VPN and VRF-Lite
  • Linux Red Hat/ CentOS
  • ·Scripting PERL and or Python
  • Ansible scripting for Network automation

Additional Skills

  • Possess excellent problem solving skills and a solid understanding of how to quickly troubleshoot connectivity and performance issues that involve switches, routers, desktops, printers, and servers
  • Must have proficiency with Linux command line utilities and familiarity with Perl or shell scripting languages to automate configuration changes, parsing log data from switches and routers, generating reports and detecting network traffic anomalies
  • Ability to excel in high-paced, demanding environments where each day provides a new set of challenges under short time constraints involving complex network configurations and/or troubleshooting multiple hosts scattered across a large campus network
  • Ability to coordinate multiple open issues and interfacing with customers at all levels
  • Must have strong time management, multi-tasking, organization and administrative skills and must be highly proficient with Visio, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • As part of the selection process, the candidate must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Be willing to demonstrate Technical skills on follow up interview in a lab environment.
